5 Actresses Who Would Absolutely Kill The Batgirl Role

Last week we learned that Josh Whedon will write and direct the upcoming Batgirl movie. If you're not familiar with Whedon, his resume includes writing and directing The Avengers and The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Those two movies combined grossed over 2.9 billion in revenue. That number alone accounts for one-quarter of Marvel's global box office. Now that Whedon is jumping ship over to DCU for Batgirl, it will be interesting to see how he helps rebuild the brand.
To fully dissect and offer suggestions on who I think would kill the role, we have to realize that there are multiple timelines for Batgirl.
Will Batgirl be at the beginning of her career learning the ropes in high school or college, or will she be a seasoned crime-fighter that's been hitting the streets for some time?
Anthony Breznican at Entertainment Weekly has reported that he's heard the adaptation will revolve around the "New 52" series, which would put Barbara Gordon (Batgirl) in her mid 20's.
This makes sense, considering Nightwing will also be around that age, and they will surely want to cross them over at some point. So with that in mind and for sake of argument, let's look around that age for the newest Batgirl.

Jane Levy seems to be leading the pack as the fan favorite for the role. She's best known for the Evil Dead remake and Don't Breathe. It's been reported that Jane was truly tormented while filming Don't Breathe, which is what makes her performance all the more impressive. She's proven her toughness on both films and it doesn't hurt that she looks like Barbara with her signature red hair.
Mary Elisabeth Winstead
Probably best known for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, she's already got a lot of geek credit. She's acted in all kinds of films ranging from comedy, horror and drama. Most recently in 10 Cloverfield Lane she showcased some of her best work, proving she's tough enough to take down the craziest of men.

At only 22 years old, Saoirse has already garned critical acclaim with two Oscar nominations for her work in Atonement and Brooklyn. Mostly taking on small budget films, I wouldn't be surprised to see Saoirse try and jump into mainstream cinema. She recently took the lead in a failed franchise starter, The Host back in 2013 and is poised to break out any moment now.

Ever since the Batgirl movie was announced, fans have been throwing Emma's name around. She's a household name and recently scored an Oscar for La La Land. She resembles Barbara with her red hair and has comic book acting on her resume with The Amazing Spider Man.

Allison Brie would be a curveball to the franchise. Barbara's character is known to have a sense of humor and compassion, which is where I think Allison could really excel with the role. Her character in Community showed us that she could make any moment hilarious. At times her roles are a bit crazy, but don't you think Batgirl would be a little crazy too?
There you have it. Those are my 5 picks. Am I totally off-base? Let me know in the comments.
