Emilia Clarke May Have Just Shot Down That Jon + Dany Theory
In the lead up to the July 16th release of Game of Thrones season 7, the cast has been doing promotion for the show, including Emilia Clarke, otherwise known as Daenerys. In a recent interview with Style Magazine, she talked about her character and may have squashed one fan-favorite theory: that Jon and Dany would eventually get together.
“I think that she has ultimately put aside her own need for a man,” said Clarke. She explained, "“She is so engaged and wrapped up in leading and being the queen and ruling and fulfilling her birth right that the idea of someone coming in and sharing that title is probably something she’s not comfortable with.” That means bad news for Jorah, too, though we kind of saw that coming.
Can we add this to the pile of season 7 spoilers?
This probably means a Jon and Dany hook up (and possibly any Daenerys relationship) can be ruled out for season 7, at least. This disappoints a lot of people, including author Margaret Atwood, who once said she would be "quite annoyed if Mother of Dragons does not marry Jon Snow."
At least we can pretty much confirm the two characters will finally meet, given photos taken with Emilia Clarke and Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) on set.
It is possible that we could see this union in season 8. After all, the show is based on the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. The marriage of ice (Jon Snow, who fought the white walkers) and fire (Dany, who can literally walk through flame and is mother to three dragons) would make sense given the title.
So, is all hope lost for Dany + Jon 'shippers? Maybe not.
