Video: Animating Rain World and its many squishy, stretchy creatures
Released earlier this year, Videocult's survival platformer Rain World -- and in particular, its heroic slugcat protagonist -- is a standout example of procedural animation done well.
If you're curious to learn more about how it was done, we've got good news: at the GDC 2016 Animation Bootcamp, Rain World animators Joar Jakobsson and James Therrien stepped onstage to present a detailed breakdown the animation process behind the visually arresting game. It was a fantastic talk that offered attendees an approachable, insightful overview of what's great (and tough) about implementing procedural animation in games. If you missed it in person last year, don't miss your chance to now watch it for free over on the official GDC YouTube channel! About the GDC Vault In addition to this presentation, the GDC Vault and its new YouTube channel offers numerous other free videos, audio recordings, and slides from many of the recent Game Developers Conference events, and the service offers even more members-only content for GDC Vault subscribers.
