Your Ultimate Guide to New York Comic-Con!
I have avoided every NYCC since it's inception in 2006 mainly because of the horror stories I've heard about overcrowding, which of course means long lines for everything as well. I decided to finally go for the first time this year as now along with the horror stories, I have heard an equal amount of anecdotes saying how "its a must see event".
So take this guide with a grain of salt that this is my first NY Comic Con, but know that I have been to tons of cons before and there is a lot of common sense in play here.
TIP 1- GET YOUR TIX IMMEDIATELY!
Obviously, this whole guide is useless if you don't get into the place right? NYCC has a long history of ticket allocation blunders and sell-outs so just get them ASAP.
TIP 2- DOWNLOAD THE APP!

NYCC makes a free mobile app for every year to help attendees organize what they want to do and when. Just make sure that you have the 2017 edition of the app, as they make a new one every year. They aren't very blatant about this either so be thorough this way you're not planning things that happened a year ago! They have not released this year's edition yet, but if you go to the official NYCC site, you can sign up to be notified when it does become available.
TIP 3- CHECK THE GUEST LIST CONSTANTLY!
Comic Cons, especially the ones that are the magnitude of NY have a ton of literal last second additions (and unfortunately, sometimes cancellations too). Do not be discouraged if you don't see someone you were looking forward to meeting not listed at first. Check weekly and then daily on the week of.
TIP 4- DO NOT GET A BIG NAME AUTO UNLESS YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT IT.

Like I said, NYCC is well known to be packed to the brim, so lines for people that are really famous can be an hours long experience. This can be precious time especially if you're only going for one day. Be very honest with yourself, do you need to meet this person? Will this person be at another Comic Con soon that's close by (many guests go to cons in bunches like a tour)? Will it be worth the long ass time you're going to be standing on line?
TIP 5- SAVE YOUR MONEY!

You will be needing plenty here.
TIP 6- RESEARCH!
I highly recommend before hand looking up the works of people on the guest list and seeing if anything catches your eye, you'd be shocked how many times I've found a new favorite artist or writer this way, and then got to meet him/her!
TIP 7-MAKE TIME TO WANDER IN AWE.
In other words, make sure you enjoy yourself. Make sure you have a little down time to just walk around and take it in. As dumb as it sounds, it's here you'll form your subsequent first thoughts about the con whenever they come up.
