Kylian Mbappe Reportedly Tells Monaco He Will Only Leave for Real Madrid
Claude Paris/Associated Press Kylian Mbappe has reportedly told AS Monaco he will only consider a move to Real Madrid.
According to Marca (h/t Metro's Ewan Roberts), the 18-year-old held a meeting with the Ligue 1 club's hierarchy over the weekend and despite reported interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Premier League trio Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City, his heart is set on Los Blancos if he leaves. Roberts added that the only thing left for Mbappe to consider is when to make the move, be it this summer or next year. Speculation surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo's future could impact his decision, according to Roberts, as the superstar reportedly wants out of Madrid this summer. If he goes, Real will want Mbappe as soon as possible. Football writer Robin Bairner shared Marca's cover from Monday, on which Mbappe's decision is the lead story, but he cast doubt over their report: So too did Goal's Mohammed Ali and Bleacher Report's James McNicholas: Indeed, as Roberts himself noted, Marca are "notoriously Real centric." Nevertheless, Los Merengues are one of the few clubs who can afford the starlet after his value soared on the back of an incredible season at Monaco, in which he racked up 26 goals and 14 assists. Mbappe is a Real Madrid fan, so they're still a likely destination for him at some point, but with so many elite clubs interested in him, he will be assessing his options carefully.
