The Dark Tower: 10 Years in the Making
Yes, yes, yes, yes, The Dark Tower is finally a thing that is actually happening; with a release date and everything.
The property has been in development hell since a small teaser cameo in 2007’s Mist, being passed from studio to studio and director to director.
The project is finally being worked on and after some fun back and forth between leads Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey on Twitter, we finally have our first trailer.
The 8 books of The Dark Tower series began in 1982 and follow the exploits and adventures of Roland Deschain, the last living member of a knightly order of men known as “Gunslingers.”
The Gunslingers were a group of peacekeepers and diplomats from back when “Mid-World” was still a thriving society. With his world coming apart at the seams, Roland searches for “The Dark Tower,” a long fabled nexus of time and space that he hopes will be the key to saving his world from complete destruction.
The world of The Dark Tower is amazing. Combining old arthurian legend, advanced almost alien technology and characteristics of the american old west, The Dark Tower scratches an itch not many properties can even come close to scratching.
The new film is branded as being as a unique adaption, so fans of the original book series can expect some references here and there to the series that ended its production in 2012.
New viewers however will be greeted by an original story in which 11 year old, Jake Chambers, will have to travel to “Mid-World” from our own dimension after cryptic dreams and visions of Roland poison his mind.
Will big powerhouses like Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey make this a summer Blockbuster? Or do you think the new trailer has come just a little too late?
