Why is Jon Beyond the Wall?
Another season 7 trailer was just released. If you've watched it (and if you haven't, why are you reading this? Go watch it now!), you've probably noticed shots of Jon Snow beyond the wall. Like a lot of them. And of course there's speculation as to why this is so.
In the shot by shot breakdown of the season 7 trailer, The Ringer explains Jon Snow's possible motivation for venturing beyond the wall yet again.
Let me explain.
Jon Snow could possibly be beyond the wall to fulfill yet another prophecy: that he is the "Last Hero".
A quick history: the Last Hero is a northern tale about a group of first men that venture out to find the Children of the Forest. One by one, the men either die or desert, leaving one remaining man- the "Last Hero", who eventually finds the children.
We could be seeing Jon Snow become the Last Hero 2.0.
Why would he be searching for the Children of the Forest? We know Bran makes it South to Winterfell and he may tell Jon what he's seen: that the Children created the White Walkers. That may mean they are the key to destroying them, right?
That, or perhaps Sam discovered something about the Children in all his studying at the Citadel. We know there must be some significance behind his being there; he has to dig up something huge, and it's probably about the White Walkers.
Unfortunately, for Jon to be the Last Hero, all the men he's traveling with, including Beric Dondarrion and the Hound, both of whom we see fighting alongside the secret Tararyen, must either die or leave him.
What do you think? Why is Jon venturing beyond the Wall where the White Walkers lurk?
