Could Sansa Become Cersei?
Winter is Coming
We are so excited to see what happens in Game of Thrones season 7, and apparently the cast is, too. Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark recently gave an interview with Yahoo Movies Singapore full of speculation about her character's development.
Sansa is no longer the innocent girl we once knew. Sansa is a "leader, powerful and hungry for revenge from the people who have done her family wrong", perhaps even an "evil lady", according to Turner.
This is just one of the parallels the actress draws between her character and Cersei Lannister. Sophie Turner made the revelation,
“I can totally see her becoming a Cersei and kind of driven mad by it, by the threats against her family. At the end of the day, that’s why she does the things that she does, because she’s terrified of losing the people she loves. And so she’ll stop at nothing to protect them.”
Do you think this is true? As we saw in the season 6 finale, Cersei will literally do anything to get her way. Could the same be said of Sansa? After that satisfying kill of Ramsay Bolton, she could seek out more blood. After Ramsay's treatment of her the past two seasons, Sansa could have grown a dark, vengeful streak. And a lot of people have wronged House Stark.
Sophie Turner also had time to talk about her character's relationship with Little Finger. At the end of season 6, they shared a meaningful look Turner digs into.
“I felt like it was the look between her and Littlefinger, with Littlefinger kind of saying ‘You know, I told you so. You should have listened to me, you should have stuck with me’ and her acknowledging that she realises that now."
On her relationship with her "brother" (really cousin), Jon Snow, Turner comments:
“I think she’s just frustrated – she’s worked so hard, tirelessly to convince him [Jon Snow] that this is what the right battle plan was and he wouldn’t listen to her. She ended up having to save him and yet he gets hailed as King of the North and he doesn’t say a thing [about Sansa saving him].”
Due to Sansa's extreme character development, the actress worries her death could be imminent, as the Starks do have a penchant for dying. Could Sansa have reached her peak? "Is it all downhill from here? Does she die now? So who knows – maybe she does," Turner muses.
She's right. Who knows? I guess we'll have to wait for the final 2 seasons to find out.
