Can We Talk About Karsi For a Sec?
Game of Thrones Wiki
Aaah, remember a simpler time, when Hodor was still alive? Season 5 of Game of Thrones, to be exact? Well, I remember Karsi.
Loboda: "My ancestors would spit on me if I broke bread with a crow."
Karsi: "So would mine, but fuck them, they're dead."
With this short line, I found what I thought was going to be my new favorite character: Karsi, a wildling leader and mother. She was feisty. She was tough. She fucking hated Thenns! And then she was dead.
Game of Thrones as a penchant for killing off our favorite characters and this one lasted only one episode. So, let's remember Karsi and all that she represented.
We first (and last) met Karsi at the Massacre of Hardhome in the episode so aptly named "Hardhome". She was introduced to Jon Snow (and our hearts) as one of the leaders of the Freefolk, representing her clan. Unlike the Thenns, she decides to stand with the Nights Watch in a retreat south of the Wall.
And then the White Walkers and their Army of the Dead attack and ruin EVERYTHING.
Just after Karsi sends her children away, promising to follow them (when is that ever a good sign), all hell breaks loose. Karsi fights hard, for her kids and for the freefolk in general, beating one wight after the next-seriously, it's awesome- and then she gets attacked by children wights. Karsi is such a good person that she can't hurt the already-dead children (yes, that's the high bar in GoT), so she freezes and is subsequently killed.
Another character down for the count.
Just when you think we've seen the last of Karsi (and we almost have), she arises with the dead as a wight, herself, breaking our hearts forever. I wanted this strong female character to thrive and survive! Just think of all the potential she had!
We've probably seen the last of Karsi, at least in her living form. But, hey, you never know!
