Breaking Down The New Game of Thrones Trailer By Location
The long-awaited second trailer for Season 7 of Game of Thrones has finally appeared, and we now have something new to watch (and re-watch and re-watch) in the days leading up to July 16th.
We're here to break down for you the trailer's most important moments.
The trailer opens on a long shot of Sansa Stark walking through the snow-covered woods. Behind her we see glimpses of a red-leaved Weirwood tree, which we see again later in a split-second shot of Bran warging.
Is it possible that Sansa makes it North of the Wall, to the tree that Bran has spent half the series searching for? It's unlikely, but the parallel between the two shots is nonetheless notable.
The voiceover in the opening shot is that of Petyr Baelish, telling her "Don't fight in the North, or the South. Fight every battle, everywhere, always, in your mind." It seems badass Sansa may be back and badder than ever, and that she may be instrumental in battle plans this season.
With dragons flying, Dany strutting, and Tyrion watching, the scenes shown in Dragonstone may not seem as though they hold much substance that we haven't seen before.
However, we do get a powerful montage of Daenerys shots with Jon's voice saying, "For centuries our families fought together, against their common enemy. Despite their differences, together."
While it's not explicit who Jon Snow is talking to, we can likely assume that a Targaryen/Stark alliance is coming soon.
The shore of Dragonstone is alive with new arrivals, although it is unclear who they may be.
Reddit users are debating over what this means for the season to come, the most talked about being Gendry's arrival or that of the Iron Born to assist in the upcoming war.
Ships are arriving at King's Landing as well, and they look to be those belonging to House Grayjoy.
Has Yara come to attack? Or does the relative stillness and balmy weather suggest that Euron and Cersei may be confirmed allies?
We are also shown quite a few shots of Jaime Lannister, one of which has him riding on horseback while fire blazes around him.
Have Dany and the dragons made it to King's Landing? Could this be the end of the Lannisters on the throne?
North of the Wall
Fans of the Night King rejoice - we finally see evidence that the battle with the White Walkers will come in Season 7.
The trailer shows Jon standing in front of the Wall, opening a huge iron door that leads through to the other side. We see shots of hand-to-hand combat between Jon and the Walkers, as well as a quick but clear full-face shot of the Night King.
The Hound and Beric are there too, along with the famous flaming sword.
What may imply bad news is the final shot of the trailer, in which we see a solo shot of Jon battling the White Walkers North of the Wall, as Sansa's voice recalls the saying, When the snows fall, when the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.
Could this mean the end of Jon Snow for good this time?
One popular theory has him becoming a White Walker, which is more than supported by Jon's new Season 7 poster.
