The Rise Of The Night's King - And Other Spinoffs We're Dying To See
Recently announced, HBO has struck a deal with 4 writers to explore more of R.R. Martin's world of Westeros. There are no details disclosing the time periods of each show. So It's probably safe to say we will see prequals and sequals.
"There is no set timetable for these projects. We'll take as much or as little time as the writers need and, as with all our development, we will evaluate what we have when the scripts are in."
The network has also confirmed that R.R. Martin himself will be involved in writing some of these scripts.
With this recent news, we can't help but speculate and hope what these spin-offs will entail. Here's 4 ideas we'd love to see come to fruition.
The Mysterious Life Of Oberyn Martell
This is one character I really wish I got to see more of. The handsome, bisexual trained killed would have the most extravagant backstory.
Through his time in Dorne, his travels and sexual conquests, they could easily make a show around him. He recieved the nickname 'Red Viper' after a duel of 'first blood' where it's rumored he put viper blood on his blade. Who wouldn't want to see that played out?
The Rise of The Night's King
Considering the series finale will likely revolve around Night's King, it would make sense to spin-off a backstory. We learned the Children of The Forest created the White Walkers and the Night's King in season 6, but in the book, his backstory is much different.
The book states that the Night's King was the 13th Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. For context, Jon Snow is the 998th. While commander, it's said that he fell in love and brought a woman back to the Watch's Castles. He declared his love and that they would become King and Queen.
When the marriage was consummated, it was said that he gave away his soul. From there, the Night's King was responsible for grotesque horrors and a reign of terror across the North of Westeros.
This seems to be the single most obvious choice as Robert's uprising is what sets the whole Game of Thrones story in motion. This would also be a fun choice as it would bring back many of our favorite characters. Some of the keys players would likely be Ned, Jaimie, Tywin and even The Mad King.
There would be plenty of battle sequences as the series unfolds with the Battle of The Trident leading to the finale. This battle ended with Robert and Rhaegar fighting to the death, both men believing they are Lyanna Stark’s one true love.
Keeping Up With Brienne and Tormund
Everyone wants these two to get together, and with a bit of luck, we may just see it in the upcoming seasons. Who wouldn't love to see a spin-off with these two gallivanting in the country-side happily ever after?
So what do you think? Do you have a better suggestion for a spinoff? Let me know in the comments.
Game of Thrones returns for season 7 on July 16th, 2017.
