Does Gendry Save Theon?
With Game of Thrones already underway with only 5 episodes left (ugh why is this season so short?!), fans can't help but wonder when Gendry, our favorite Baratheon bastard, will return. Thanks to the bleak ending of last episode, "Stormborn", we might know how. Stay with me here: Gendry might be the one that saves Theon from a watery grave.
Last we saw of Theon, he made the controversial move to abandon Yara and dive from his burning ship into the water, shaking with fear à la Reek. This probably isn't the end of the Greyjoy. I mean, how anticlimactic would that be? However, he must either be a very good swimmer, just get lucky and not drown for some reason as he's dragged ashore by the tide, or get picked up by someone else.
Luckily, we know someone with a boat, someone that may have been paddling this whole time: Gendry.
Ok, Gendry probably hasn't been on the water this whole time. I mean, he's not exactly the water type. However, this would be a huge fan service, something the show runners have demonstrated a fondness for carrying out. I mean, we saw the Hound openly admit he likes chicken, Nymeria and Arya reunite (albeit anticlimactically), and we even got freaking Ed Sheeran on an episode (whether this is good or not is debatable). So, many would not put it past Benioff and Weiss to have this be Gendry's epic return.
We know Gendry is almost certain to return to GoT. Joe Dempsie, who plays the character, was even at the show's premiere.
I honestly can't tell if I would love or hate the idea of Gendry saving Theon on his stupid rowboat so much. There's honestly nowhere in between.
