Peter Parker Plays Nathan Drake
Uncharted fans rejoice, the popular video game series has long had a movie deal in the works, and it seems we’re finally moving ahead on it.
Sony pictures has pegged their Spider-man: Homecoming lead, Tom Holland to play the ever charming Nathan Drake. Nathan Drake is a world class treasure hunter who has traveled around the world, collecting priceless artifacts for fame and riches. Players use his strength, charm, vast wealth of historical information and absurd levels of good luck to pilot him through his adventures.
This new movie will take place before the events of the first game in the series, thus being a prequel to the franchise. Tom Holland will play a young Nathan Drake, before he becomes the master thief we’ve all come to love and appreciate, as he meets his soon to be mentor Victor Sullivan.
This story makes sense to me, as I can’t imagine the baby faced Tom Holland (aged 20) playing the gruff, 5 o’clock shadowed, 30 something treasure hunter. The fact that this is a prequel series also interests me, as there’s so much we don’t know about Nathan’s past, specifically his journey into master thief-dom.
The Uncharted movie has been in development hell since 2007, the same year as the first game’s release. Back then, Nathan Fillion was interested in playing the lead role, going so far as running a twitter campaign to gauge public interest in the idea.
The movie has gone through 3 different writers and multiple directors, but is finally hinting on Joe Carnahan as the scriptwriter (The A-Team, Death Wish, Smokin’ Aces) and Shawn Levy directing (Real Steel, Night at the Museum, Big Fat Liar).
Will Uncharted turn out to be an amazing blockbuster? Or will it succumb to the video game movie curse that has befallen most adaptations? Let us know what you think in the comments.
