Talks Underway To Cross Playstation and Xbox With Red Dead Redemption 2
Sony has drawn the ire of the gaming community lately as they have put the kibosh on any form of cross-platform play that Microsoft and Nintendo have been engaging in with Rocket League and Minecraft.
Their reasons have included wanting to "protect their users" which doesn't make a ton of sense because the PS4 supports cross-platform play with PC which is regulated far less than Xbox, for instance.
Either way, this could all change with Red Dead Redemption 2.
Unverified sources have reported Rockstar's interest in cross-platform multiplayer between Xbox One and Playstation 4.
The source, Liam Robertson has predicted correctly in the past as he leaked the Mario/Rabbids crossover that was just unveiled.
If these sources are to be believed, negotiations between Sony, Microsoft and Rockstar could be underway.
The prospect of a unified online multiplayer community is an enticing enterprise. And for a game set in the wild west, that's how it should be.
Supporting cross-platform play like that would be a serious undertaking, but for a company as massive and competent as Rockstar is, it is certainly possible.
The question is whether or not it is worth the effort for a small convenience. And with Sony's history of blocking this sort of thing I'm not sure how likely it is.
The idea that they are even talking is exciting but all sides would have to agree so I don't see it happening. But I hope I'm wrong.
Red Dead Redemption 2 was originally slated to come out in 2017 but was delayed to Spring 2018 to allow Rockstar to create, "the best experience possible."
