Bye-Bye Martellus? Pats Trade For New Starting Tight End
Looks like Patriots are wasting no time in trying to fill the hole where Martellus Bennett may no longer be.
Numerous stories have been floating around these past couple of weeks surrounding Bennett. Everything from Bennett being completely done with the Pats, to his asking price being way too much for the Patriots to try and convince him to stay.
It finally looks like the Patriots have decided to move on to something new, and that something new is none other than Colts TE Dwayne Allen.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted earlier this afternoon that nearly 24 hours before the free agency was set to open, the Patriots are taking on Allen.
Last season, Allen caught 35 passes for 406 yards and six touchdowns. He would be leaving his five year stint with the Colts with 126 passes for 1,451 yards and 19 touchdowns.
The Patriots already have Gronkowski under contract, but taking on Allen, who is basically a younger version of Bennett in my opinion, doesn’t seem like a bad answer to losing him.
