A Collector on Newbury Comics

A little background, I had a really great (albeit expensive) weekend. I celebrated my 23rd birthday on Thursday and spent the weekend buying stuff I like. On Saturday I bought a 4 foot tall Batman that I later put in the driver's seat and subsequently used the carpool lane on the way home.
Then on Sunday I walked into the Newbury Comics in Roosevelt Field Mall (the only one outside of New England by the way) and found the 3 figure pack from The New Batman Adventures' The Dark Knight Returns adaptation. An item I was lovestruck with when I saw it on eBay for twice as much, and needless to say, bought it immediately.
I want to talk about the store. As a longtime Comics reader, I am somewhat new again, however to collecting figures/statues/etc. since my local store closed when I was like ten years old, so my experience might vary significantly from a more seasoned collector. Keep in mind I have only been to one of the 29 Newbury Comics locations.
At this point Newbury has adapted from just a comics joint as its name suggests. There is a good deal of CD's and Band Tees present which is a clear attempt to get in on the Hot Topic/Spencer's market. At the Roosevelt Field location it is very prominent, taking up at least 70% of the large store, again I don't know if it is this present at other locations. Many do not take this well and I agree with them that it is unnecessary, but I don't think that this completely undoes the good that it does as being an introduction to potential new fans.
The verdict is that there are way better options and just a quick search of what local comic stores are by you will reveal them. However, I do recommend Newbury as a "gateway drug" to newer collectors and newer comic readers. It's just one of those things that are better in theory than in practice. You sometimes get a good deal as in my case and it also may save you a trip if you're at the mall and they have something you need as Comic stores are literally few and far between these days.
