Remember The Epic DC & Marvel Mashup Series? Spoiler: It Was Awesome

Comic Vine

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you combined Batman and Wolverine? What about Storm and Wonder Woman? Maybe even Perry White and J. Jonah Jameson?

The answer is the Amalgam Universe, a 1990’s experiment where DC comics and Marvel combined their characters to create brand new (and frankly awesome) creations.

In an attempt to boost sales, DC and Marvel put their publishing differences aside (if only that could happen more often!) and created some of the coolest characters to grace the pages of comics. Here is a showcase of just a handful of characters that stand out.

#10 Deadeye

Wikia

Deadshot and Bullseye each share similar abilities: they are renowned for their marksmanship, claiming to never have missed shots (although this has happened). Now, imagine combining that double dose of deadly accuracy into one amazing character. That’s Deadeye. Sporting the iconic Deadshot forearm guns and the Bullseye…well….bullseyes, this is one assassin you don’t want coming after you!

#9 Moonwing

Wikia

Moonknight is a Marvel fan favorite, having had several ongoing series since the 1980’s. In many respects, he has been called Marvel’s version of Batman because of the similar tones of the books and the way he fights crime. It comes natural then to pair Moonknight up with the same person Batman chose as his partner: Dick Grayson aka Nightwing.

Circus performer Dick Grayson suffers a mental breakdown and discovers his alter ego Marc Spector. After some reconciliation, he is able to use Spector’s aggressiveness to fight crime as an outlet and the ensuing action is nothing but glorious.

#8 Lobo the Duck

Comic Vine

You could not have imagined a more contrasting pair to combine! Lobo, an intergalactic bounty hunter with big rock band hair and no moral compass whatsoever…and Howard the Duck, private eye! There hasn’t been a bird this scary since Hitchcock. Sporting a muscular physique, ammunition, and the big hair, this is one mallard that means business.

#7 Skulk

Wikia

“Solomon Grundy born on a Monday!” This DC powerhouse has been a continuous nuisance for many of the companies’ heroes, using his undead power and regeneration to create havoc. Then multiply that by Marvel’s big green fighting machine The Hulk and you have a character that is ready to smash like never before.

#6 Thanoseid

Comic Vine

As if these two galactic giants didn’t have enough in common, imagine combing the fury of Apocalypse’s ruler Darkseid with the gauntlet wielding Thanos. Even Galactus would have to take a backseat to such a combined force!

#5 Bizarnage

Wikia

Carnage is the one Spider-man villain everyone wants to see in film. He is a ruthless, cold-blooded killer that nothing short of a rated R film would do justice. Now, combine that with the twisted clone of Superman, Bizarro and you have a story for the ages!

#4 Super-Soldier

Wikia

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It’s…Super-Soldier? Imagine DC’s boyscout combined with Marvel’s boyscout? Superman + Captain America = Serious problem for foul mouthed villains everywhere. Switch out the classic Captain America shield for the Classic S symbol, Super-Soldier is ready to lead the way and take down evil doers everywhere!

#3 Hyena

Wikia

The Joker is in fact the crown prince of crime. Now add some feral savagery to that courtesy of Sabretooth and we have a problem that no amount of tranquilizer can handle. The Cackling Canine is the perfect storm of crazy and blood lust.

#2 Dark Claw

Wikia

If Joker was combined with Sabretooth, it is only natural that Batman be combined with Wolverine and what a beautiful combination! Logan Wayne witnessed his parents’ murder and was later submitted to the Weapon X program. Then BOOM! A comic fan’s wildest dream come true. Who knew Batman or Wolverine could get better?

# 1 Amazon

Comic Vine

The Princess of Theymyscira and the Wind-Rider are easily one of the coolest amalgam combinations. Ororo is saved by the Amazonians, training under their ways and possessing the ability to control the weather. Hell hath no fury like a goddess trained in the art of combat!

This was only a glimpse of the amazing combinations that resulted from these two companies putting their creative minds together and personally, I would love to see them team up again and bring these characters into new and modern tales.
