Supergirl Easter Egg Hinting Toward Batman On CW?
In the newest episode of Supergirl a reference was made to Batman that has some fans excited.
Jimmy Olsen was guarding over National City under his superhero persona, Guardian when he realized people were afraid of him because of his mask.
Olsen tells Winn that, "People see this big guy in a scary mask and they run away just like Clark's friend."
"Clark's friend" is a clear nod to the caped crusader. Winn then places his fingers on his head where Batman's ears would be and jokes, "I think they're more like frenemies."
This is likely a tongue-in-cheek reference to Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The CW shows have often danced around the subject of Batman, with some shows like Arrow straight-up borrowing from his rogues gallery, but this is a direct reference.
In Season 2, Episode 7 of Supergirl, Kara said, "My cousin worked with a vigilante once... Tons of gadgets. Lots of demons."
Another character referenced going to Gotham City. In the Season 2 premiere, Kara said, "I thought masks were only big in that other city."
The CW already has a Superman in Tyler Hoechlin so is it that out-there that they could introduce Batman too?
It's unclear if the writers are just having a bit of fun or if they are hinting toward a serious plan to bring Batman into the Arrowverse.
FOX's Gotham could prevent that from happening though assuming they have exclusive rights to the character on television. Either way, it's cool to see references to the Dark Knight.
